John Legend Releases Much Needed "Love In The Future" Album

John Legend, the singer-songwriter who first took the music industry by storm in 2004, has done it again with his new album, Love in the Future, proving that his sound is current and promises longevity. While the record features Legend’s smooth, sophisticated voice paired with his classic oldschool charm, the normally quiet musician gives us a rare glimpse into his personal life, serenading listeners with an outlook on both his present and future.

When asked about the record, Legend explained, "Lyrically, the title kind of embraces where I’m heading in life, I’m about to get married. It’s the beginning of something new, I’m ecstatic about it, and you can hear that in the tone of the tracks. I wanted to make a really great modern soul album."

Love in the Future's intro track sets an overall cheerful tone, claiming,“It's a new year for love, love in the future not the love I lost.” The intro fades smoothly into a cool, organ-backed ballad,“The Beginning...” before smoothly transitioning to the wedding-reception-friendly, “Open Your Eyes.” While the first few tracks of the album feature Legend's vintage soul style, the icon makes sure to keep us on our toes with the pop-sounding tracks “Made To Love,” “Tomorrow,” and “Who Do We Think We Are,” featuring hip-hop mogul, Rick Ross.

The album is eclectic, with songs ranging from soulful ballads, to hip-hop, to pop due to its plethora of producers. Kanye West,James Fauntleroy, Malay, Joe Jonas, Doc McKinney, 88-Keys, Hit-Boy, Blink! and Dave Tozer all lent their expertise. Lesser artists would be hard-pressed to pull this off, but Legend achieved the perfect mix in this delectable genre mixture. When asked about his mission for Love in the Future, Legend explained, “My role as an artist is to put out beauty in the world and to spread love. That may sound kind of corny, but I think it's part of an artist's job – or at least my job.” Mission accomplished, John (the) Legend!
